The Working Group on Transparency of Police Investigation, a group of organizations which works
to prevent wrongful convictions as a result of reprehensible investigations, held a conference with
representative Shuji Ikeguchi, Nobuo Masao, and Mister of Justice Toshio Ogawa on May
30th. The group suggested that the government to ensure fully transparent police investigation and
access to evidential materials, and abolish substitute prison system immediately. This discussion was
also attended by human rights organizations including Amnesty International Japan and Center for
Prisoners' Rights. The Group also turned in the petition signed by 6,933 people to Mr. Ogawa.
