July 12 Webinar: “Human Rights and Due Diligence・Considering the Trend in Europe”
Unanimously approved by the UN Human Rights Council in 2011, and celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, the “Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights” stipulates that in addition to state’s obligation to protect human rights, companies also have a responsibility to respect human rights. In order to ensure its effectiveness, legislation is being promoted in each country, and the movement is particularly remarkable in Europe. Currently, environmental and human rights due diligence legislation at the EU level is being discussed, and the law was recently passed in Germany as well.
In this webinar, we will learn about Japan’s national action plan (NAP) released last October and the work of current Japanese companies, in addition to learning about France and Germany’s legal system and practice. In doing so, we will deepen discussions among multi-stakeholders namely companies, investors, and civil society on how to promote business and human rights initiatives in Japan.
