The Working Group on Transparency of Police Investigation, a group of organizations which works to prevent wrongful convictions as a result of reprehensible investigations, held a conference with representatives Shuji Ikeguchi, Nobuo Masao, and Mister of Justice Toshio Ogawa on May 30th.
The group suggested that the government ensure fully transparent police investigations and access to evidential materials, and abolish substitute prison systems immediately. This discussion was also attended by human rights organizations including Amnesty International Japan and the Center for Prisoners’ Rights. The Group also turned in a petition signed by 6,933 people to Mr. Ogawa.
