HRN releases report: “Severe Working Conditions Continue in Extreme Heat at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Construction Sites: Is this still an Olympics for Sustainable Development (SDGs)?”

HRN has a released a report on severe labor conditions at construction sites for the 2020 Olympic Games.

For the report, we visited six construction sites and documented dangerously high temperatures, and we concluded that several major principles of the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights have been ignored by authorities in charge of the construction, including that employers conduct due diligence, take measures to prevent harms, and implement an efficient complaint mechanism, as the current mechanism has major flaws that make it ineffective.
