A blog article on mandatory human rights and environmental due diligence (mHREDD) laws titled “No mHREDD, no smart mix: Developing effective legal frameworks in Japan, South Korea and Taiwan,” written by our Geneva Representative Calvin Queant, has been published on Business and Human Rights Resource Center’s website.
The lack of mandatory human rights and environmental due diligence laws has allowed some of the world’s largest and most influential corporations to operate without adequate oversight, leading to human rights abuses and environmental degradation across their supply chains. Sharing examples of supply chain abuses by companies from Japan, South Korea and Taiwan and highlighting urgent call for state action on mHREDD laws by a coalition of civil society organisations from those countries, the article reiterates the need for collaborative action among governments, businesses and civil society to ensure effective implementation.
