Video: Watch Special Rapporteur Anand Grover’s report to the UNHRC

Special Rapporteur Submits Report

Following the accident at the Daiichi nuclear power plant in Fukushima, Japan, Human Rights Now (HRN) sent a request for the United Nations to conduct an independent investigation after concerns emerged that the Japanese government’s response to the accident was insufficient to protect affected people’s right to life, right to health and reproductive health.

The United Nations accepted and in November 2012, a fact finding mission visited Japan. In March 2013, the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the right to health, Anand Grover, presented his report to the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC). In light of apparent shortfalls in the governments response, the report contained several recommendations to the Japanese authorities.
