From rising sea levels displacing coastal communities to deforestation and desertification disrupting traditional livelihoods, Indigenous youth face complex challenges that force them to navigate displacement while striving to preserve their cultural identities and rights. Despite their resilience, they often remain underrepresented in policy discussions and decision-making processes that shape their futures.

This side event will explore the intersection of climate change, migration, and Indigenous youth rights, amplifying their voices and experiences in global policy spaces. Bringing together Indigenous and migrant youth from around the world, this discussion will highlight the urgent need for inclusive frameworks that recognize Indigenous youth’s unique vulnerabilities and contributions. By centering the perspectives of Indigenous youth, this event seeks to advance solutions that uphold their rights, strengthen resilience, and foster meaningful participation in shaping climate and migration policies.

[Co-organizers]

Migration Youth and Children Platform (MYCP)

UN International Organization for Migration (IOM, UN Migration)

Global Indigenous Youth Caucus (GIYC)

Human Rights Now (HRN)

IYX Africa – Indigenous Youth Exchange Africa

Asia Indigenous Youth Platform (AIYP)

Bangladesh Indigenous Youth Forum (BIYF)

[Panelists]

Erika Xananine Calvillo Ramírez (Mexico)

Hillary Paul (Canada)

Sorane Sakihama (Okinawa, Japan)

Craige Q7 Beckett (South Africa)

Toni Chiran (Bangladesh)

Joe Baxter (Malaysia)

Cecilia Zerbini (IOM)

*Please note, we are unable to provide assistance in any form, including funding, to cover attendance to the UNPFII or this Side Event. Pre-registration is required for in-person participants to enter the space, and the room has a maximum capacity of 50 people.

The week of the Youth Forum, we will be individually contacting all those who indicate in-person attendance to confirm in-person participation.
