Together with Migration Youth and Children Platform (MYCP) , IOM, \u00a0<\/a>and four other NGOs from around the globe, Human Rights Now is co-organizing a side event on climate mobility and its impact on indigenous youth entitled, \u201cRooted Yet Displaced: Indigenous Youth Navigating Climate Mobility, Rights, and Resistance<\/strong>,\u201d in the sidelines of The twenty-fourth session of the UN Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues<\/a>, which will take place in-person from 21 April to 2 May 2025 at the UN Headquarters in New York City.<\/p>\n

Indigenous youth are at the forefront of climate mobility, as environmental degradation, extreme weather events, and industrial expansion increasingly threaten their ancestral lands and ways of life. From rising sea levels displacing coastal communities to deforestation and desertification disrupting traditional livelihoods, Indigenous youth face complex challenges that force them to navigate displacement while striving to preserve their cultural identities and rights. Despite their resilience, they often remain underrepresented in policy discussions and decision-making processes that shape their futures.<\/p>\n

This side event will explore the intersection of climate change, migration, and Indigenous youth rights, amplifying their voices and experiences in global policy spaces. Bringing together Indigenous and migrant youth from around the world, this discussion will highlight the urgent need for inclusive frameworks that recognize Indigenous youth\u2019s unique vulnerabilities and contributions. By centering the perspectives of Indigenous youth, this event seeks to advance solutions that uphold their rights, strengthen resilience, and foster meaningful participation in shaping climate and migration policies.<\/p>\n
