Human Rights Now together with the Business and Human Rights Resource Center, conducted a survey on the enactment of a law requiring the implementation of human rights due diligence (HRDD) from October 2023. The survey revealed that 70% of the responding companies and organizations thought that such legislation was desirable.<\/p>\n

A report was originally released at a press conference in Tokyo on 19 December 2023 summarizing the responses on the prevention and redressing of serious human rights violations that cross national borders and spread domestically and internationally. An English translation of the report was released on 11 January 2024.<\/p>\n

In light of the current international situation, such as the agreement on December 14 to implement a EU directive on HRDD as well as the competitive environment for companies internationally, we appealed to the Japanese government to immediately draw up a bill to enact human rights DD legislation and begin deliberations in the Diet.<\/p>\n
