{"id":4136,"date":"2017-10-17T15:32:28","date_gmt":"2017-10-17T06:32:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/hrn.or.jp\/eng\/?p=4136"},"modified":"2017-12-07T17:52:02","modified_gmt":"2017-12-07T08:52:02","slug":"girls-day-event","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hrn.or.jp\/eng\/news\/2017\/10\/17\/girls-day-event\/","title":{"rendered":"HRN event for U.N International Day of the Girl"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>What it means to be \u201cindependent\u201d as a woman<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On\u00a0October 12,\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">2017,<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0To commemorate the UN\u2019s International Day of the Girl, Human Rights Now hosted an event celebrating the empowerment of girls and women. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">HRN invited 3 successful\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">women to share their experience, talk about pursuing their dreams, and their success in living a life led by their passion.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/hrn.or.jp\/eng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/22405604_10213326514651797_8695550922112266490_n-e1508221605808.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4141\" src=\"http:\/\/hrn.or.jp\/eng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/22405604_10213326514651797_8695550922112266490_n-e1508221605808.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"550\" height=\"413\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Guest speakers were Yukino Kikuma, lawyer and former TV announcer, Mieko Uesako, renowned golf wear designer, and Sachiko Ezawa, multi-certified OB-GYN clinician, licensed pilot and ship operator. The speakers openly discussed topics revolving around women in the workplace to a mostly young audience, touching on their personal experiences and challenges they faced in paving their paths for their dream careers. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/hrn.or.jp\/eng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/DSCF8301-e1508221329995.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4138\" src=\"http:\/\/hrn.or.jp\/eng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/DSCF8301-e1508221329995.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"550\" height=\"413\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Before the talk, young girls from middle school were invited to participate in a workshop where they could write down their own dreams, goals and aspirations in life. The girls showed a lot of enthusiasm, they were happy to share about the women they wish to become.
