Japan ratified Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, which guarantees equal rights for disabled people compare non-disabled people. This treaty contains new points of view including social model of disabilities, prohibition of discrimination, reasonable accommodation and rights of independent living in communities. The keynote speech will address what \u201cdisability\u201d”social model” “discrimination” really are. How is the situation in Japan compare to world standards?<\/p>\n

Is it discrimination if we separate education for people with disabilities? What about rejecting entrance of mentally handicapped people at an internet cafe? What about rejecting entrance of people in the wheelchair using the public bath? We will examine some real cases and assess whether they can be recognized as discrimination.<\/p>\n
