There are serious concerns about consequent health\u00a0effects for pregnant women, mothers, children and others in\u00a0contaminated areas. Residents have a right to live in a safe and\u00a0healthy environment, however, sufficient protective measures and\u00a0support are not being provided. The right to access medical treatment\u00a0and the medical data about one&#8217;s own body are being seriously\u00a0denied. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"background: #ffffff none repeat scroll 0% 0%; margin-bottom: 0.46cm; -moz-background-clip: border; -moz-background-origin: padding; -moz-background-inline-policy: continuous;\"><span style=\"font-family: \u3055\u3056\u306a\u307f\u660e\u671d, serif;\"><span style=\"color: #222222;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\">A\u00a0human rights expert from Japan, a medical doctor from Japan, and a\u00a0medical doctor from the U.S. will speak about how the lives and\u00a0health of local women, children and others in the Fukushima area are\u00a0being affected after the disaster and what should be done to provide\u00a0immediate relief. In July 2011, on behalf\u00a0of a coalition of civil society groups in Japan, Human Rights Now\u00a0requested the Office of United Nations High Commissioner for Human\u00a0Rights (OHCHR) for a Special Rapporteur to investigate the human\u00a0rights situation after the disaster. In response to the request, Mr.\u00a0Anand Grover, the Special Rapporteur on the right to health, visited\u00a0Japan in November 2012. Recently,\u00a0<\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #222222;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\">HRN\u00a0submitted a joint statement,<\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #1a1a1a;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\">\u00a0signed\u00a0by more than 70\u00a0<\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #222222;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\">civil\u00a0society organizations in Japan and worldwide, urging the IAEA and the Japanese\u00a0government to take a rights-based approach in response to the nuclear\u00a0disaster based on the recent preliminary findings and recommendations\u00a0issued by Mr. Grover in November.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #1a1a1a;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\">To\u00a0raise awareness of the situation in Fukushima after the nuclear\u00a0accident, HRN NY has organized human rights seminars and a press\u00a0conference to inform the international community about the ongoing\u00a0crisis.<\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #1a1a1a;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0cm;\"><span style=\"font-family: \u3055\u3056\u306a\u307f\u660e\u671d, serif;\"><span style=\"color: #1a1a1a;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"><b>PHYSICIANS\u00a0FOR SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY:\u00a0<\/b><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #222222;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"><i>Physicians\u00a0for Social Responsibility<\/i><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #222222;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\">\u00a0(PSR)\u00a0advocates for sound public health policies regarding exposure to\u00a0radioactive and other toxic materials, and is the medical and public\u00a0health voice working to prevent the use or spread of nuclear weapons,\u00a0to slow, stop and reverse global warming and the toxic degradation of\u00a0the environment. Fukushima presents an immediate challenge to protect\u00a0those individuals most endangered by exposure to dangerous levels of\u00a0radioactivity, and to adequately and openly track the health\u00a0consequences of the ongoing irradiation of populations. PSR was\u00a0founded in 1961 and succeeded in achieving the Limited Nuclear Test\u00a0Ban Treaty that ended the global radioactive contamination produced\u00a0by atmospheric nuclear bomb testing. PSR shared in the 1985 Nobel\u00a0Peace Prize awarded to International Physicians for the Prevention of\u00a0Nuclear War (IPPNW), for building public pressure to push their\u00a0governments to end the nuclear arms race.
