Myanmar: “Overseas aid and investment to Myanmar without principles inhibits democratization and conflict resolution, accelerating human rights violations against ethnic minorities.”<\/b><\/p>\n

Human Rights Now (HRN) has submitted the following statement to the Human Rights Council, 22nd Regular Session, as an ECOSOC NGO (Special Status).<\/p>\n

Human Rights Now (HRN) calls for the United Nations Human Rights Council to continue its mandate on serious human rights situations in Myanmar which remain rampant. Myanmar still holds oppressive laws such as the 1962 Printers and Publishers Registration Laws that violate international human rights standards. Moreover, civil conflicts in Kachin and Northern Shan states have been continuing with severe human rights violations conducted by the Myanmar military. HRN is gravely concerned that growing overseas investment in Myanmar will potentially accelerate human rights violations and make it more challenging to tackle the root causes of conflicts in Myanmar.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
