{"id":163,"date":"2012-09-23T15:21:39","date_gmt":"2012-09-23T06:21:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/test.hrn.or.jp\/?p=163"},"modified":"2023-10-25T09:44:28","modified_gmt":"2023-10-25T00:44:28","slug":"fukushima-inaction","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hrn.or.jp\/eng\/news\/2012\/09\/23\/fukushima-inaction\/","title":{"rendered":"The human rights situation after the nuclear disaster in Fukushima, Japan"},"content":{"rendered":"<style type=\"text\/css\"><!--\n.box{ width:520px;padding:20px 20px 20px 20px; border:3px solid #; background-color:#ccff99;}\n--><\/style>\n<div class=\"box\">\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/hrn.or.jp\/eng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/grover.jpg\" style=\"max-width: 40%;\" class=\"alignright\" \/>The nuclear accident at the Fukushima-Dai-ichi Nuclear Power Station,\u00a0Northeast Japan, on March 11, 2011, released huge amount of radioactive material,\u00a0which is estimated at 168 times of that released by the atomic\u00a0bomb in Hiroshima.\u3000The Japanese government\u2019s policies towards the affected population remains insufficient, and there are serious concerns over the affected population\u2019s rights to health, especially those of the most vulnerable such as children, pregnant women, the poor, the elderly, and the mentally-ill. Alarmingly, the government has been disregarding most of the recommendations made by UN Special Rapporteur Anand Grover\u00a0in his May 2013 report (made following his mission to Japan in November 2012). The Japanese government has not taken into consideration the health implications of low-level radiation exposure. Human Rights Now is the only human rights NGO actively investigating and\u00a0engaging in advocacy on this human rights issue in Japan.
