Job opening for Human-Rights Education Program in Yangon, Myanmar

Human Rights Now (HRN) is a Tokyo-based international human rights NGO working for the promotion and protection of human rights worldwide, with a special focus in Asia.
Since 2014, HRN has started its work in Myanmar.
First, in association with Yangon Bar Association, a group of over 3,000 bar members, HRN started a human rights education project for Myanmar’s lawyers, youths, women and civil society groups. HRN hopes this project will expand to outside of Yangon, and empower ethnic minority groups whose rights are still severely violated.
Secondly, HRN wishes to monitor human rights situations across Myanmar and work together with local NGOs to make efforts for the promotion and protection of human rights for people in Myanmar.
Therefore, we wish to have one staff who will be in charge of the coordination of human rights education program as well as other human rights activities, including research, monitoring, and networking.

The following is the job description.

<Work contents>
● Liaison between Human Rights Now and civil groups, bar associations, and prominent human rights organizations in Myanmar
● Take a leading role in organizing and operating the human-rights education program in Yangon
● Coordinate and network with local organizations
● Research and monitor human rights situations in Myanmar, write reports and memo and draft press releases as well as other documents for HRN

<Criteria >
● Legal Research, documentation and other writing skill in English
● Fluent in Burmese, or at least communicable with local people
● Coordination and communication skills
● Basic accounting skills
● Understanding the mission of HRN and human rights work

<Compensation>
Around JPY 50,000/month (five-day-week basis)
