International Network on Explosive Weapons issue letter on the use of weapons in populated areas ahead of the UN Security Council Open Debate, May 25, 2017

International Network on Explosive Weapons (INEW), of which Human Rights Now (HRN) is a member, have issued a letter to UN Secretary-General Antonio Gueterres in relation to the open debate on May 25 discussing the protection of civilians in armed zones.

The letter concerns the use of explosive weapons in densely populated areas which put civilians at a high risk of harm. We are calling for international standards to prohibit the use of explosive weapons in these areas as a means of providing greater protection to citizens in areas of armed conflict.

The letter follows; for more information please see the briefing paper written by INEW.
